Oxidative Stress
A lot has already been said about extra virgin olive oil and there will be more in depth studies in the future; we want to better define the concept of “oxidative stress” and put it in relation to the distinctive characteristics of Oltèo™.
We have already specified how the biophenol components of the extra virgin oil and the tea bring about a protective action against oxidative phenomena in general.
Inside our bodies things become a little complicated since it involves countless reactions that necessitate a myriad of chemical entities.
Living in aerobic conditions, human beings use oxygen to produce vital energy for the survival of cells. This creates a form of equilibrium inside the human body, where molecules with high reactive potential (having a high propensity to combine with other molecules) are called ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species) and enter into play to defend the body from attacks by external agents (i.e. infections) or by transmitting signals to the interior of the cell.
In contrast, an endogenous excess of this substance causes an “aggressive” situation for our bio-equilibrium such as: pollution, stress or disease of various origins, such that there is less of the equilibrium guaranteed by an immense variety of enzymes, the so-called antioxidants, therefore causing an imbalance between the production and the elimination of the ROS – “oxidative stress”.
Oxidative stress is caused by:
a deficient antioxidant defence
an augmented production of ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species)

Nutrition, an essential component for a correct lifestyle, can have an influence on oxidative balance, and that is why today more and more attention is being directed not only at diet but also at individual foods.
That is why the concept of “correct lifestyle” is being asserted more often.
To respond to this emerging necessity we all have to make ourselves aware of what we do on a daily basis and take timely precautions that will bring about the necessary results.
Correct nutrition is no longer considered a mere slogan and governments in many countries have focused on nutritional prevention as one of the ways to go to obtain results and “limit the damage” caused by the incessant advance of serious diseases such as cardiopathy, tumoral pathologies, diabetes and obesity.
